Anne Berard

Anne has always taken a creative interest in anything textile, be it unique fabrics, fine wools or colorful yarns. Self taught, she has spent most of her 76 years creating beautiful clothing and accessories, handmade rugs and intricate quilts. Beginning in the late 1950's she used her sewing talents to handcraft exquisitely tailored clothing for herself, her two daughters and their numerous dolls. Simultaneously, she mastered the vintage craft of hand braiding rugs using recycled scraps of wool or cotton. Always eager to try something new she moved towards the art quilting, producing large and small pieces that reflected her mastery as a seamstress. An injury several years later left her with one eye, but this physical setback did not slow her down. She continued her quilting and then picked up a pair of knitting needles to create the colorful scarfs that you see here at the Wildflower Village.

Anne's scarfs are highly versatile and can be worn to enhance any outfit. For instance, the metallic scarfs are lovely accessory to evening wear. The brightly colored versions do wonders for a casual outfit and can add pizzazz to any business attire. Some of the wider scarfs are great underneath a coat for those brisk winter walks. All Anne's scarfs are comfortably soft around the neck and do not "itch" as do many that are made of courser materials.

Anne presently resides in Virginia where she sells many of her handcrafted items in historic Old Town Alexandria. She visits Reno frequently where both her daughters live.
